Christmas

I love Christmas time. At Sub Zero we put up a real tree cut down in Island Park, Idaho as part of our family tradition. Dad puts up a bunch of stuffed animals, and we play christmas music all month. It is fun to see all the families that come in the week before Christmas. And we sell tons of gift cards! Whenever we sell a gift card, it is a great witness to me that people love our ice cream. If they didn't, why would they give it as a gift to the ones they love? That always makes me feel good. In fact, the only thing I don't like about Christmas at Sub Zero, is all the snow! Although it is nice to see the white and it is beautiful when it falls to the ground, it isn't good for ice cream sales :) when it's cold, people don't like to go out of their houses. And who can blame them? So we just wait for December and January to pass and get excited as the weather warms up. But all that aside, the most important thing of Christmas is celebrating the birth of our Savior. He is the reason we are able to even enjoy the season. Merry Christmas everyone!

A Quick Update

So today we were going to have a display freezer installed so that we can keep ice cream pies in stock. HOWEVER, we got the wrong freezer delivered. :( Shouldn't be too long though that we get the right one and we can start making ice cream pies. They are soooo yummy! They are 9" pies that can be custom made or you can buy one of the standard flavors made (come into the store to see which ones we carry). They are $17.99 a pie, and $4.99 for two slices. We may make single slices available in the future. We will let you know when we start carrying them.

Another update: Club Zero should be complete VERY soon. We have had a few roadblocks, but things have moved forward the last couple weeks and we are almost there. Thank you everyone for your patience and for your enthusiasm. We know it is going to be a HUGE hit and we are very excited. It looks like there will be a battle of the bands concert next door to us on the 17th of October. We'll get you details when we find out more. It should be fun! Thank you everyone for your support and we look forward to see you more!

Busy Parking Lot

We came home last saturday from Boise and Tri-Cities, Washington, and we were so pleased to see the parking lot full! It was about 9:30 at night and it just made our day that much better. It is good to know that although we aren't in the same parking lot as the movie theater, or we aren't our own free standing building, we are able to attract so many people to us. We have really become a destination place. Perhaps the most rewarding thing for me is seeing people in our store on a regular basis and saying things like, I just can't get enough, or I love your ice cream, or this is our third time this week (yes, this happens more often than you might imagine.) That is just so rewarding for us! Thank you everyone for eating ice cream! Now let's get some good weather!

The Ice Cream Bloke

So there is this guy who is from Australia named Steve. He called me up one day and said that his family was on vacation in Idaho and staying with some friends. His friends told him about Sub Zero and that he needed to visit it. Well, it turns out that he works for a company in St. Louis that sells ice cream making equipment and then teaches those who buy it how to use it. In other words, he teaches others how to own and operate ice cream stores! And he considers himself to be an ice cream connoisseur. Since he travels a lot for his job, he visits different ice cream places and records them, and then posts them to his website called icecreambloke.com.  Well, we are now episode number 24! That's right, he recorded us, and you can watch it at www.icecreambloke.com.  It's pretty good I must say. After the second night it was posted, I received a phone call from a man in Toronto who wanted to learn more about Sub Zero franchising opportunities. Funny how this stuff happens! Go Sub Zero Ice Cream!

All Holidays and the weather...blah!

We love the holidays here at Sub Zero. Whenever kids are out of school, our business really picks up. I like to think of those days as windows into the summer. The trend is that a Sub Zero store will typically do twice the volume in the summer that it does in the winter. Well, we have been having some killer winter nights so we're stoked to see what the summer will bring! However, whenever it is cold, or rainy or snowy, we can totally see a direct correlation in our sales. For some reason, people don't like eating ice cream when it's -10 degrees outside, windy, and dropping a foot of snow! Imagine that lol.

Valentine's Day

Hey all! So how was your Valentine's Day? I cannot believe all the holidays that have been falling close to the weekends lately. It's nice, but also not so nice at the same time. For instance, Halloween was on a Friday. Friday's are one of our best days, and Halloween was soooo slow! So we lost that Friday. If Halloween had been on a Wednesday for instance, (one of our slower days) it wouldn't have been a big deal. Well, Valentine's day was on Saturday. It was a good day, but we only made about 30 more ice creams today than we did last Saturday. So I guess I am kinda wishing that holidays were falling on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday so that our normally slower days would be boosted by the holiday! Oh well. lol All-in-all it was a pretty good weekend considering how crappy the weather was.

I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day!
